The Labour Office of the Czech Republic (ÚP ČR) has announced conceptual changes in the provision of contributions for Czech language retraining courses for foreigners, effective from January 2026. The goal is more effective support for labor market integration and directing funds to areas with labor shortages.
- Focus on A2 and B1 levels
The main change is that from 2026, support will be targeted at language levels A2 and B1. The Labour Office will no longer fund retraining courses for absolute beginners at the A1 level. This basic level is considered a necessary prerequisite that foreigners must arrange themselves.
- Priority for shortage occupations
Priority support will be given to individuals heading into professions with long-term labor shortages, specifically in these fields:
- 🔹 Healthcare and social services,
- 🔹 Education,
- 🔹 Construction,
🔹 Technical fields.
- One retraining per person rule
A new rule of one retraining per person will apply. Therefore, it is important to carefully choose the level and type of course that will best help your employment in the labor market.
- Who can apply for the course?
Both job seekers (unemployed individuals registered with the Labour Office) and job applicants (people who have a job but want to increase their qualifications) can still apply for retraining.
How to proceed if you are a beginner?
If you do not currently reach the A1 level, it is necessary to complete it as a self-payer. At ICJ, we will provide you with a high-quality foundation so that you meet the conditions for a subsequent application for higher levels (A2/B1) in priority fields.
