City Hall of the Capital City of Prague
Program “Support for zero-year students (SŠ) for the integration of Ukrainian youth” – school year 2024/2025 (III) DOT/61/05/017251/2024

Implementation period: January 2024 – June 2025
A total of 170 students with temporary protection were involved in the preparatory year, divided into six groups with an average of 16 participants. Classes were held five days a week, usually in blocks in the mornings and afternoons, with a total allocation of 20 hours per week. Students who completed the course throughout the period received more than 680 teaching hours.
Content and course outcomes
- Main content: intensive teaching of Czech as a second language.
- Supplementary subjects: basics of social sciences, history, geography, mathematics.
- Support for adaptation: individual consultations and recommendations for better integration into the Czech environment.
Each student underwent entrance, intermediate, and final testing. Successful participants (with at least 80% attendance) received a certificate of completion of the preparatory course with results at the language level B2.
Extracurricular activities
The program was supplemented by a wide range of activities supporting adaptation and orientation in the Czech environment:
- excursions (EUSPA CZ, NASA projects, museums, galleries, historical monuments),
- participation in educational fairs and open days,
- workshops with JA Czech and HR expert Patrik Kilti (CV, LinkedIn, job interviews),
- Startup Day at the City Hall of Prague,
- cultural and community events (Mikuláš evening, SOFA webinar, seminar ÚP “How Czech opens doors to employment”).

Funding: The Magistrate of the Capital City of Prague
Implementation period: January 2025 – June 2026
ICJ has received support from the Capital City of Prague for the school year 2025/2026 as part of
the Program to Support Zero Grades as preparation for admission procedures for secondary
and higher education.
A total of 170 students with temporary protection participated in the preparatory year, who were divided into seven groups with an average of 16 participants. Classes are held five days a week, always in blocks in the morning and afternoon, with a total allocation of 20 hours per week.
Students have the opportunity to complete education over 10 months with 870 hours of teaching.
The aim of the project is to enable young people from Ukraine to successfully continue their studies in the Czech Republic, acquire the necessary language skills, and increase their chances of admission to secondary and higher schools in Prague.
The project is intended for youth aged 15–19 coming from Ukraine, who live in the Prague area and need to better prepare for study in the Czech education system.
