Temporary pause in public funding of Czech courses: what it means and how to move forward

The Czech Labour Office has temporarily suspended the funding of retraining courses nationwide, applying this measure to all educational institutions without exception. This decision does not affect ICJ only, but all language schools and educational providers across the Czech Republic.

According to currently available information, this suspension is valid until further notice. At the same time, it remains unclear in what form – or whether at all – the funding will continue during the course of 2026.

What is important to know?

  1. It is currently not possible to submit new applications for course funding or to be placed on any “waiting list”.

  2. Even if the funding is reinstated, a significant surge in applications is expected, which may result in applicants gaining access to courses no earlier than summer 2026.

Waiting may therefore mean losing at least 6 months, during which your Czech language skills will not progress.

Why waiting is not worth it

The current direction of state policy indicates support for foreigners who:

  • – actively invest in their education,

  • – improve their employability in the labour market,

  • – and prepare for long-term life in the Czech Republic.

Postponing Czech language studies may result in:

  • – limited job opportunities,

  • – lower income,

  • – and complications related to your residence status in the future.

It is important to think ahead — temporary protection visas are currently extended until March 2027, but further extensions are not guaranteed. Knowledge of Czech will be essential for transitioning to other types of residence permits and securing stable employment.

Don’t wait for a miracle. Invest in your future now.

State funding is uncertain and slow. Your time is valuable. Every month of waiting costs you opportunities for better work or further studies. Take control of your future with ICJ.
