At the end of September 2025, two classes, a total of twenty-six students with teachers, set off on a journey of discovery into the world of modern technologies. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. we had the unique opportunity to visit HW LAB – an open workshop in the capital city of Prague, a place where creativity, learning and innovation come together.
Our students are currently participating in the zero year of education at the Institute of Foreign Languages, which is being implemented thanks to the support of the Prague City Hall. And this excursion was a wonderful addition to their studies – not only because they learned new words and tried out working with technical language, but also because they found themselves in the middle of the real world of technologies that are often only read about.
Welcome to the world of creativity and innovation
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the lecturers and opened the doors to a fascinating space full of machines, tools and equipment. They explained that HW LAB is a place where anyone can try their hand at electronics, woodworking, 3D printing or digital fabrication. The students were not just spectators – they were given the opportunity to to touch, explore and create everything.
Fascinating 3D printing and virtual reality
The most attention was drawn to 3D printing. It was fascinating to watch how a simple plastic fiber slowly grows into a solid and precise object based on a digital model. The students were surprised to discover that this technology no longer belongs only to the world of toys – it is used in medicine, construction and industry.
An equally exciting experience was virtual reality. The special glasses instantly transported the students to completely different worlds – some explored virtual nature, others found themselves in the middle of an action game. For most of them, it was their first experience, which evoked a mixture of excitement, wonder, and endless questions.
More than just an excursion
The excursion to the HW LAB was not only a pleasant addition to the lessons, but also proof that technologies can be inspiration and engine for your own creativity and development.
