ICJ’s Participation in STRONG Training – Supporting Mental Health of Young People in a New Environment – October 2025
In mid-October, we participated in a two-day STRONG – Supporting Mental Health of Children and Adolescents program. The training took place on October 13th and 20th, 2025, and focused on children and young people who are relocating to a new country and learning to cope not only with a new language but also with entirely new living conditions.
Many of them have experienced war, difficult journeys, and separation from home and loved ones. Their journey continues here – and we want them to feel supported every step of the way.
The STRONG program is designed to equip us with practical tools, support, and inspiration to help these young people manage stress, find their place in the community, and gradually build a sense of safety and security.
The training provided us with new experiences and skills, including:
- practical methods for working with children and young people during their adaptation period,
- techniques for developing communication and emotional stability,
- strategies for recognizing and safely managing stress reactions,
- tips for creating an atmosphere of trust and safety in the classroom.
It wasn’t just theory – we practiced everything through real-life examples and scenarios, so we can immediately apply these methods in our courses and activities.
Our work doesn’t stop here. We have ahead of us:
- adaptation and psychosocial activities for students,
- internal knowledge sharing with colleagues,
- preparation of brief methodological guidelines,
- participation in further expert discussions and seminars.
Why the STRONG Program Matters
Successful integration isn’t just about language learning. Young people also need:
- psychological support,
- a safe environment,
- understanding and respect,
- a place where they feel accepted.
The STRONG program helps us better understand these needs and offers concrete ways to help children and young people grow, develop, and build their future in their new environment.
