Choosing a School Without Stress

Choosing a School Without Stress: Freshmen Gained Clarity Thanks to ICP Prague

On November 13, 2025, freshmen students attended a special career workshop titled “How to Choose Your Career Path.” It was one of those events that can truly change your perspective on the future. The entire program was led by experienced professionals from ICP Prague – experts who have long supported young people in deciding about further studies and professional careers. The workshop was aimed at young people aged 15–24 in temporary protection status and was conducted in Czech at the A2/B1 level.

From the very beginning, it was clear that many students came with concerns. They didn’t know which field would be right for them, or they weren’t sure what abilities they actually had. Therefore, ICP Prague staff started very practically – through simple activities and questions, they guided participants to describe their strengths, interests, and what naturally motivates them. The atmosphere quickly became relaxed, and young people began to openly discuss how they imagined their future and what opportunities lay ahead of them.

Next came a section dedicated to labor market trends. Students gained a realistic overview of professions with a future and the skills that employers value most today. The topic of career competencies (Career Management Skills – CMS) came through loud and clear: those who want to succeed must know how to plan, make decisions, and take responsibility for their trajectory. This part helped many understand that choosing a school is not a random decision, but a step that has logical arguments and can be based on data, trends, and personal characteristics.

The practical part of the workshop was often the most interesting for students. Each of them completed a career-personality test that showed them new connections between their abilities and possible educational or professional opportunities. When they later discussed the results together with the lecturers, specific fields, schools, and career directions began to emerge. For many, it was a crucial “aha moment” – for the first time, they saw a clear connection between their potential and real opportunities in the job market.

The initial administrative registration took approximately thirty minutes, and then participants moved into a two-hour interactive part of the seminar, where there was plenty of space for questions, sharing, and discussion among participants.

Ultimately, the entire day became an important milestone for the freshmen. They left with the feeling that their decision about choosing a secondary or tertiary school could not only be rational and realistic, but also in line with their own abilities and dreams. Support from ICP Prague experts gave them confidence and opened new possibilities they had not previously considered.
