State exam in the Czech language for foreigners B2

Official certificate of proficiency in a foreign language corresponding to level B2 of the Common European System of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The test is designed to confirm the ability to confidently communicate in a foreign language in various everyday and professional situations.

When do you need a state exam in Czech?

International recognition

SJZ is a Czech state certificate, i.e. an official document of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic.

Universities and schools in the EU and outside the EU-usually recognize the SJZ of English if they need proof of English proficiency when studying (for example, Bohemian studies, Slavic studies).

Secondary school education is free of charge

For free study at Czech universities, you will need to demonstrate a B2 level of English proficiency = You can understand.

What do I need to be able to do when taking the state language test?

  • Reading comprehension: assessment of the ability to understand texts in the range from 700 to 1000 words.
  • Written work: write an essay of approximately 300 words.
  • Listening skills: understanding an oral text lasting 35-40 minutes.
  • Grammar test and vocabulary: testing language structures.
  • Oral part: talk on the topic: demonstrate your speech and dialogue skills.

Dates and registration

Tests are conducted regularly 2 times a year in November and May.
