In recent weeks, several important changes have been introduced that affect employees, job seekers and residence permit holders in the Czech Republic. Below is a summary of the key updates you should be aware of.
1️⃣ Temporary budget regime
The government has introduced a temporary budget regime that limits the approval of new retraining programs through the Labour Office of the Czech Republic. This measure may affect individuals planning to start retraining in the near future. It is recommended to follow official updates from your local Labour Office branch.
2️⃣ Increase in minimum wage
As of 1 January 2026, the minimum wage has increased to CZK 22,400 per month. This change affects both employees earning the minimum wage and employers. It may also influence certain allowances, contributions and employment-related entitlements.
3️⃣ Changes for employee card holders
The transitional period for finding new employment after termination has been extended by 90 days for employee card holders. This provides additional time to secure a new job. However, all reporting obligations toward the relevant authorities still apply.
4️⃣ Increase in unemployment benefits
During the initial period of unemployment support, benefits now amount to 80% of the previous average earnings. This adjustment aims to provide greater financial stability for individuals who have lost their jobs. Legal maximum limits continue to apply.
5️⃣ Health insurance conditions for ZDP holders registered as job seekers
ZDP holders registered with the Labour Office as job seekers should carefully review their health insurance obligations. Registration may influence who is responsible for paying health insurance contributions and under what conditions. It is advisable to consult your health insurance provider.
