Description
About the Program
This program is ideal for curious children who want to connect visual arts with learning about the history, culture, and architecture of Prague. Children will be introduced to various art styles, such as Gothic, Renaissance, and Cubism, in a fun way. Each day is dedicated to a different theme that inspires children’s own creations in the workshop while guiding them through interesting facts from art history. The program combines creative activities with walks through Prague, where children get to know famous landmarks and the stories behind them.
Age Categories
9–15 years
Location
ICJ Campus, Kolbenova, Prague (the program also includes themed walks through the city center)
Program
The program is designed for children to become familiar with artistic movements not only in theory but, above all, in practice—whether through their own creations or by discovering Prague’s landmarks.
Sample Weekly Structure:
•Monday: Gothic – After an introductory talk about the Gothic style, children will dive into creative work and try, for example, stained glass painting or drawing cathedrals.
•Tuesday: Renaissance – We will get to know the great masters of the Renaissance and be inspired to create our own portraits and sketches.
•Wednesday: Romanesque Style – We will explore the secrets of Romanesque architecture and symbols. In the workshop, children will then try creating models of buildings or mosaics.
•Thursday: Cubism – We will discover the magic of Cubism, learn about its Czech representatives, and start creating our own collages and geometric paintings.
•Friday: The Great Prague Walk – We will head into the city streets to see famous buildings like Prague Castle, the Municipal House, and the Dancing House live. On-site, we will connect the knowledge from the whole week and listen to myths and legends.
